Classroom

Special Activities:

To add a little spice to the classroom bringing in variety is essential. With that in mind, there are a couple activities the students will have a chance to participate in during the course:

  • A field trip that allows the students to inquire into naturally occurring mathematical patterns. (Will need volunteers)
  • A lesson including the graphing of exponential functions will be carried out using the online web application Tinkercad®.

Main Goal:

Is that students completing this course will have an understanding of numerical, analytic and graphical approaches to solution of problems that can be expressed algebraically. This includes learning to solve linear and quadratic equations and inequalities as well as being able to develop mathematical models which can be represented by these expressions.
At the satisfactory completion of this course, a student will be able to but not limited to:

  • Perform algebraic operations on rational, exponential and radical expressions.
  • Solve linear equations and inequalities and express the results in numerical and graphical form.
  • Solve application problems involving exponential growth and decay.as well as compound interest.

Rationale:

By studying and developing an ability to apply the mathematical principles of college algebra, the student will be prepared to study higher mathematics courses.

Rules:

Provided here is a brief list of guidelines that help ensure the success of every student.

  1. Students should have all necessary materials in class. Otherwise students are not capable of recording and retaining the maximum amount of content from the lesson.
  2. Students should be polite and courteous towards each other and the teacher. This helps foster a safe environment for all to learn.
  3. Cell phones and other electronic devices are not allowed to be used during instruction. Otherwise students could miss potentially important content that would hinder comprehension of later material and concepts.
